Repent Of Sinful Thoughts

I know we are sinful in nature, but it is so embarrassing to repent a sinful thought when you know you will do it again. The accountability is overwhelming and causes a distant relationship with God....Sad!

There is an old proverb : " It is ok if a bird flies above your head but do not allow it to make a nest in your hair ".

The battlefield is our own own body and mind. Thoughts could assail us but put on the whole armour of God and fight. Remember Jesus , was like us , in all points tempted like us but he won with the grace of the father and with the sword of the Word. We are all warriors for Christ and the battle filed is our own flesh and mind - let us fight this battle and die honorably in this battle bearing the Flag of our savoir and messiah - Jesus.

Without reformation-intent to make a striking change for the better concerning ones attitude or actions, trusting the empowerment of the Father to do so-there has been no true repentance-recognition of error as reveal by truth, which in and of itself, produces within us a godly sorrow leading to an empowered change of mind and/or attitude. As far as thoughts are concerned we are instructed to cast down any thought that exalts itself against the knowledge of God we have been blessed to embrace.

I realize that the verse actually reads "high thing" however that high thing is always the results of a thought or way of thinking that exalts it in our mind. Submitting to Christ within, will bring every contrary thought or way of thinking under subjection to the obedience of Christ, the power to cast it down. Let every man that thinks he stands in his own strength, take heed lest he falls. We are only alienated from the Father in our own minds.

Another way to keep these thoughts out of your mind is to watch things on television that are not of Satan. If you constantly watch shows about killing, sex, witchcraft, etc., that is what is going in your mind.

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God,...

"Bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ,"

Bringing every evil thought into captivity. Entertaining lustful, angry or sinful thoughts can lead to following through.

Thoughts become actions or strongholds that influence your heart.

God, will not hold you responsible for the rotten thoughts that Satan puts in your mind as long as you do not dwell on them or act on them. If you do these things depression can set in and also sadness because you are in sin. Learn to push them out just as quickly as the devil can give them to you. You will be okey with God, If you are truly Born-again. At first it may seem like a full-time job. Ask God to help you. He will. Also, ask God for forgiveness just in case.

Everyone has thoughts they shouldn't have. If they say they don't, they are not human by no means. The bible says we are to renew our minds daily. Meaning put more word in our hearts and mind, so when a thought comes to mind, that we shouldn't have we have the word to rebuke those thoughts. Our mind will play tricks on us, and if one isn't careful they will do what the mind says to do or say instead of rebuking it.

Another way to avoid these "sinful thoughts" is to get the Word of God in your mind. Read the Bible and pray constantly!

You know Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy. What you do is resist the Devil and he will flee from you. You do that by saying to the thought "Spirit of lust(whatever it is) I command you in the name of Jesus to leave, and go to realm of darkness, and be bound there." God I don't receive this but please forgive me. Do it every time it happens and you are prayed up,forgiven ,protected and ready to have fellowship with God. Then Praise God,He inhabits the praise of His people.

Jesus says, WE Christians have power OVER the Principalities of Darkness & Have POWER over Satan with HIS Name.
PUT ON YOUR ARMOR!
Embarrassed?
Shame, is coming for those who are like ships without rudders.
LEARN to Bridle your thoughts & your Tongues,
Love God w/All your H.M.S, Love your Neighbour, LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS "THE LORD" HAS LOVED US.

I Believe this is what my Brother would say to you...

Do you think Homosexuals are Evil, Sinful, Unnatural? The Science Proves that You May Be Gay

Recent studies provide empirical evidence that homophobia can result, at least in part, from the suppression of same-sex desire. Our paper describes six studies conducted in the United States and Germany involving 784 university students.

This may explain why political and religious figures who campaign against gay rights so often implicated in sexual encounters with same-sex partners.  Several examples come to mind.

Ted Haggard, an evangelical leader who preached that homosexuality was a sin, resigned after a scandal involving a former male prostitute; Larry Craig, a United States senator who opposed including sexual orientation in hate-crime legislation, was arrested on suspicion of lewd conduct in a men’s bathroom; and Glenn Murphy Jr., a leader of the Young Republican National Convention and an opponent of same-sex marriage, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge after being accused of sexually assaulting another man.

Not all those who campaign against gay men and lesbians secretly feel same-sex attractions. But at least some who oppose homosexuality are likely to be individuals struggling against parts of themselves, having themselves been victims of oppression and lack of acceptance. The costs are great, not only for the targets of anti-gay efforts but also often for the perpetrators. We would do well to remember that all involved deserve our compassion.

Staying Strong in a Sinful World
Bible study on spiritual strength.

By the will of God, we live amid unbelievers, for reasons I'll not enumerate in this article (1 Cor. 5:9-10).
Although it's God's will, it's difficult to stay strong while living around sinful people.
Like Lot, our souls are tormented by their lawless deeds (2 Pet. 2:7-8).

Keep Your Heart Right
From the Old and New Testaments, we learn that our actions reflect our hearts. If our hearts are right, our actions will be right. But if our hearts are wrong, our actions will be wrong.
The problem resulting in Israel's sin was in their hearts. Through the prophet Malachi, God tells them:
  • "Take heed then to your spirit, and let no one deal treacherously against the wife of your youth" (Mal. 2:15).
Even more to the point, Jesus tells sinful Jews:
  • "Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. These are the things which defile the man . . ." (Matt. 15:7-20).
Known By Your Fruits
Since our actions reflect our hearts, our hearts are known by examining our actions.
In warning the people of false prophets, Jesus tells us we know them by their fruits.
  • "Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits . . . (Matt. 7:15-16).
The important point for this lesson is that you know your heart by looking at your fruits. If you're not acting like a Christian, your heart can't be right with God.
Furthermore, we can know other peoples' hearts by looking at their fruits.
For example, if a young man tells a lady he loves her and wants to marry her. Yet he treats her badly. His fruits prove him to be a liar, showing he doesn't truly love her.

Judged By Your Fruits
Since our fruits reflect our hearts, it stands to reason we'll be judged according to our fruits.
In line with this thinking, Jesus tells us we'll be judged by whether we practice lawlessness.
  • "Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness'" (Matt. 7:21-23).
There'll be people at judgment who call Jesus Lord, but their fruits prove they didn't truly believe He's the Lord because they practiced lawlessness. As a result, they'll be punished for eternity in hell.

Don't Deceive Your Heart
Some people deceive their hearts, believing they're righteous, when their fruits clearly reflect the sinfulness of their lives.
James says these people are forgetful hearers of the word, and delude themselves. They hear what God says but don't change, continuing in sin while thinking they're righteous.
  • "But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was" (Jas. 1:22-24).
Anyone who thinks he's righteous, but isn't a doer of the word, deceives himself.
  • "If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless" (Jas. 1:26).
How do we know whether we're doers of the word, or we've deceived ourselves?
James gives us the acid test by which we examine ourselves.
  • "If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless. Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world" (Jas. 1:26-27).
If you're a Christian and controlling your tongue, visiting orphans and widows to relieve them in their distress, and keeping yourself unstained by the world, you know you're a doer of the word.

It Takes Work
It takes work to get our hearts right with God, and keep them right!
Peter specifically addresses the need for this work, when he commands us to prepare our minds for action.
  • "Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1 Pet. 1:13).
It Takes Preparation
To do anything well, it takes preparation.
We must prepare ourselves to be good students, good employees, and good parents. And certainly, we must prepare ourselves to be faithful Christians.
Peter tells us:
  • "Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children . . ." (1 Pet. 1:13-14).
If we prepare our minds as God commands, we'll succeed in obeying Him. But if we don't prepare our minds, we'll fail. Preparing as God commands in His word, is the key to success.

Spend Time With God
To grow strong and stay strong, we must spend time with God by studying his word, praying, and singing spiritual songs.
We study God's word, meditating and thinking upon it throughout the day.
  • Rom. 1:16 The gospel is the power of God unto salvation.
  • 2 Pet. 1:2-4 God grants us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through knowledge of His word, whereby we become partakers of His divine nature.
  • Eph. 3:16-20 Through knowledge of God's word, we are strengthened with power by the Spirit in the inner man. Then we're able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
  • 1 Th. 2:13 God's word performs its work in us, because we believe.
We pray. Some prayers may be short, offered throughout the day while doing other things, and others may be longer, when we pause from the day's busy activities.
  • 1 Th. 5:16-18 We rejoice all the time, because we pray all the time, in everything giving thanks to God.
  • Phil. 4:4-7 We rejoice in the Lord, not anxious for anything, because we make our requests known to God by prayer and supplication. As a result, we have the peace of God that surpasses all comprehension.
  • Col. 4:2 We devote ourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it, with an attitude of thanksgiving. Therefore we're on guard against sin, and the trickery of the devil.
We sing spiritual songs to God. Sometimes we sing silently in our minds, and other times we sing orally when we're doing things like riding in a car.
  • Jas. 5:13 God commands us to sing praises when we're cheerful. Besides worship to God, this helps us keep our minds on the right things, and motivated to serve God.
  • Col. 3:16 The word of Christ dwells richly within us, when we sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in our hearts to God.
When we make Bible study, prayer, and singing spiritual songs a daily part of our lives, we grow strong and stay strong.

Don't Entangle Yourself in Everyday Life
To stay strong while living around sinful people, we can't entangle ourselves with the daily affairs of everyday life.
Like a soldier, we have to concentrate on our mission, not on the day-to-day, unimportant things of life.
  • "No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier" (2 Tim. 2:4).
We must lay up treasure in heaven, not on earth.
  • "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matt. 6:19-21).
When we're devoted to doing God's work, rather than satisfying the flesh, we grow strong and stay strong.
Sin doesn't have the allurement it had when we were trying to live for the flesh, because our lives have a higher purpose. Then, when we are blessed with the physical things of life, we can truly enjoy them as content children of God, happy and satisfied in the Lord.
Consider these questions:
  • Are you more concerned with spiritual things than physical things?
  • Do you spend more free time with spiritual activities or recreational activities?
  • If you lost all your wealth and possessions today, how would that affect you?
Avoid Sinful Situations When Possible
God's will is for us to live in the world, and not isolate ourselves from people living in sin. Therefore, it's impossible to avoid all contact with sin (1 Cor. 6:9-10).
At the same time, though, we're not bound together with unbelievers. God commands us to come out of their midst and be separate.
  • "Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness" (2 Cor. 6:14)?
  • "'Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate,' says the Lord . . ." (2 Cor. 6:17).
So we live around sinful people, but we don't have sinful partnership or fellowship with them. We do not participate in their unfruitful deeds of darkness, but expose them (Eph. 5:11).
To live this way, and avoid sinful situations, we must put to death our sinful desires, and avoid evil companions.
  • "I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily" (1 Cor. 15:31).
  • "Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good morals'" (1 Cor. 15:33).
  • "Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality . . ." (Col. 3:5).
Avoid Sinful Language
It's not possible to avoid all sinful language in the world, but we shouldn't expose ourselves to more than is necessary. Nor should we use sinful language ourselves.
  • "But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks" (Eph. 5:3-4).
If we participate in sinful language, it leads to further ungodliness that spreads like gangrene (2 Tim. 2:16-17).
Avoid People Who Oppose the Truth
We should avoid people who oppose the truth because they lead people astray.
These are:
  • "Lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power . . ." (2 Tim. 3:2-5).
Paul tells us to avoid such people because they oppose the truth, leading people away from God.
  • "Avoid such men as these. For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith" (2 Tim. 3:5-8).
We are to avoid sinful situations as much as possible, and make a special effort to avoid people who are leading people away from God, except to preach the word to them (2 Tim. 4:2).

Although we're loving toward all people, we shouldn't be companions of religious leaders who lead people into sin through their teachings. Nor should we be companions with people advocating sin in pop culture, such as advertising executives advocating sin through their commercials.

As a matter of fact, when we act as Christians, exposing darkness as lights to the world, people advocating sin don't want to be our companions.

Avoid Factious People
A factious person causes division.
Sometimes people like to be factious to destroy friendships for self-serving purposes. Maybe they want to gain power over a group of people, so they cause strife resulting in division.
In religion, the same thing happens. The best way to destroy a congregation is to create strife resulting in division, especially by teaching false doctrine. Unless the congregation is strong enough to reject the factious man, it will be divided.

God's command, through the apostle Paul, is simple and plain.
  • "Reject a factious man after a first and second warning, knowing that such a man is perverted and is sinning, being self-condemned" (Tit. 3:10-11).
Associate with Godly People
Rather than associating with sinful people who influence us negatively, we are to associate with godly people who influence us positively.
  • Rom. 12:16 Associate with the lowly.
  • 1 Cor. 5:11 Don't associate with immoral brethren.
  • Heb. 10:24-25 Assemble with the saints.
  • 2 Tim. 2:22 Pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
The most important group of people to associate with is Christians, at the assembly and in day-to-day activities. These are the people who will help us get to heaven.

Summary
To stay strong in a sinful world, we must:
  • Keep our hearts right with God.
  • Spend time with God by studying and meditating on his word, singing, and praying.
  • Not entangling yourself in the affairs of everyday life.
  • Avoiding sinful situations as much as possible.
  • Associate with godly people.

Sinful Thoughts?

The Question:
I have known the Lord for some time. I have accepted Jesus as my personal savior and I pray often. Yet, I continue to sin, mostly through my thoughts, and can't seem to stop. I don't carry out my thoughts but can't seem to stop them from entering my mind. What can I do?
- Gordon from Massachusetts

The Answer
Part 1: Just thoughts versus sin
Part 2: Keeping clean/renewing your mind

Just thoughts versus sin (Part 1)

I want to start off by making sure you understand that the fact that bad thoughts enter your mind is not a sin. Satan flings lots of garbage into our minds hoping he can make some of it stick. He confuses us into thinking that since it is in our mind, we are the originator of it but that is not necessarily true. He originated it.

Think about a dessert cart at a restaurant. The waiter rolls it by and stops to tell you about each dessert hoping he will entice you into ordering one. The fact that the cart is in front of you does not mean you have consumed the dessert or that you will be charged for it. You can say "no thanks" and the cart will go away and you don't need to feel guilty that it stopped at your table.

Now, suppose you say; "Yes, I'll take that chocolate mousse cake" but to yourself you say; "I'll order it but won't eat it. I'll just let it sit here on my table." That puts you on shakier ground. You ARE going to be charged for it on your bill and it is going to be quite hard not to eat it. This is the example of someone holding onto temptation too long; lingering over it and considering it.

So now you need to ask yourself where you are at in this scenario. You say you don't carry out your thoughts but how long are they sitting? Have you ordered the dessert but now you're trying not to eat it? If you reject every thought which does not match up with the mind of Christ right up front, then you have not sinned just because the thought came in.

I'm going to go on the assumption that you are struggling with lingering thoughts which you are attracted to but don't want to put legs to because you know the actions would be wrong. You've got the dessert sitting on the table; you're just trying not to eat it? Let's talk tomorrow about ways to dump the dessert and then NEVER reorder it again.

Next: How do you deal a death blow to tempting thoughts?

Keeping clean/renewing your mind (Part 2)

Romans 12:2 says; "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…" A renewed mind is less likely to struggle with ordering off the dessert cart and then squirm not to eat it. But how?

I have several suggestions. The first one is this: just who is running this show anyhow? You are not your mind but you control your mind - or should. The spirit realm is a higher authority than the physical realm and must submit to it. If you have accepted Jesus as your savior, your spirit has come alive and has the right to tell your body and your mind (your soul) what to do. Chew on that thought for awhile until you begin to feel the truth of the power you have to decide what comes in and what gets kicked out immediately.

Secondly, let's be practical about your thought life. Examine the triggers you are most usually dealing with. Are they coming from TV images, magazines, Internet? What time of day is most troubling - what circumstances? You should easily recognize a pattern and once you do you can disrupt it. For instance, when I am dieting, I do not even allow myself to go down the ice cream isle.

Here's the other thing I do when I'm dieting: I make sure when I go grocery shopping I'm full - not hungry. What that means to you is that you need to keep your mind very full of "good stuff" so there is no room for the junk Satan tries to slide in. "Whatever is true, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things." (Philippians 4:8)

Can you play Praise and Worship music in the background during the day? How about falling asleep at night with it on? One of my close friends plays the Bible on CD overnight every night. That's a good way to get the Word deep down inside of you. Are you reading Christian inspirational books? What hobbies do you have that are good and wholesome and just plain fun? Do you volunteer anywhere? Fill your life with good and leave little room for temptation to fester.

You mention that you pray. Keep that up and increase it. The kind of prayer to accentuate is deep one on one conversation with the Lord. Fall more in love with God till everything else fades into the background. That's where you want that dessert cart!

We are all human and get tempted, so do not feel guilty. Do not feel like a failure. And most important of all, try your best to never give in. These are ways to avoid temptation.

Steps:

1. The more you believe in Christ, the more pressure Satan will put on you to sin, and it's no coincidence. We must recognize an attack when it arrives, and Satan has many devices. He may use your past, pent-up anxieties of the future, anything to kill your feelings of worthiness and make you falter in your relationship with Christ. For the truth is, Satan wants you back. Back to living just in a material world and not living in conjunction with the Lord. And if he were to pry you back, you would not find spiritual happiness. Ephesians 6:11, "Put on the whole Armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." Ephesians 4:27, "Neither give place to the devil."

2. Avoid situations that may lead you to making a sinful act. This may mean the type of people you hang out with, or the scene. Pray silently if you cannot pray out loud. Proverbs 13:20, "He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed."

3. Turn your back on sin from the past. Don't live as if it happened, live as if it did not. Once you ask for forgiveness, God then completely forgets about it. Yes, forgets as if you never sinned in the first place! So act like Him, He's forgotten and that's all that matters, so why don't you? Otherwise, it has a hold on you (and ignore Satan's voice saying, "No he hasn't... Are you sure..."). Yes, God has forgotten your previous sins. The Word never lies. Hebrews 10:17, "And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more."

4. Remember that we need to trust God even when being tempted. Resist the devil, and he shall flee from you (James 4:7). He will be fleeing. He's afraid of us because he's afraid of Jesus and the love of God.

5. Remember what Jesus has done, that His blood is our righteousness, which means it cleanses us from all sins (1 John 1:7). "But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin," including our minds.

6. Get into the word! The Bible truly does have some good things to say. Try a different Bible from your usual one if you think you'll need it. And the clearer and neater the text, the more enjoyable it is to read. Try Christian novels like "The Believers Authority" as well. Not trying to move in faith makes you vulnerable to temptation. John 15:3, "Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

"Remember, "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus!" Romans 8:1

  • Take a hold of the situation. Aloud, demand what you'd like to be freed from. Did you know that when Jesus died he gave us Authority over the devil (Mark 16:17)? So never cower or fear Satan. Yes, ask for assistance. But what God really wants you to do is address him yourself and aloud (James 4:7, "Resist the devil and he will flee from you". Speak words of faith. Helpful ways to do this are listed in the Tips section.

Tips:

  • Addressing the temptation.
  • You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. His name is extremely powerful. So when you want to get rid of any emotion, any doubt, any ailment or sickness, speak words of faith with a heart full of faith. Quote scripture, demand what you want to leave you, and use "In Jesus' Name" or "By the Blood of Christ Jesus." It need not be lengthy or anything, but you have to mean it.
How to Avoid Sin in your Life:
  • Read the bible everyday
  • Think stuff through
  • Pray every night
  • Always look to God for help
  • Stay away from the wrong crowd
  • Ask others for help when needed
  • Combat Satan with scripture
  • Keep a bible within a good distance
  • Keep your mind out of the gutter
  • Don’t let your mind Wander off
  • Let God take control
  • Always look to God for advise
  • Stay in a good mood
  • Stay away from what makes you mad
  • Praise God and love Him
  • Stay away from those who sin a lot
  • Let God do the talking
  • Let God do the punishing
  • God will take care of those who believe
  • Go to church
  • Ask for help from Pastors
  • Ask for help from teachers
  • Ask for help from the counselor
  • Ask for help from you Mom
  • Ask for help from your Dad
  • Ask for help from your Grandpa
  • Ask for help from your Grandma
  • Ask for help from your Friends
  • Believe that God will provide
  • Blow off a little steam
  • Go for a swim
  • Think about the consequences
  • Always think of the best of things
  • Be a glass half full
  • Don’t be a glass half empty
  • Let your friends hold you back
  • Be consistent with your friends
  • Always tell the truth
  • Praise God in any way shape or form
  • Ask for forgiveness for you past sins

 Warnings:

  • We should be confident in God's Word. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says that God will not allow you to be tempted above that ye are able. You can overcome sin completely! What we must do is to pray. Pray for forgiveness, get back on your feet and continue your life with Jesus. When God forgives you, he completely forgets that you ever sinned. Dwelling on old sins which God has forgiven will only make Satan's influence over you stronger. Be forgiven and move on. And remember in Proverbs second chapter, it is said that the one who confesses his sin to GOD will have mercy and the one who does not will see death.

Things You'll Need:

  • Scripture
  • Faith
  • Love
